Lamborghini Aventador Versus Lamborghini Huracan: It's A Fight To The Finish

Lamborghini prides itself on building cars that are easily recognizable. Spot one driving down the road and there's no mistaking those sharp edges, unique grills, specially designed hubcaps, or gorgeous paint jobs. While there may be many automakers that can build supercars that are comparable in price to Lamborghini, it should come as no surprise that Lamborghini's biggest competition is Lamborghini itself.

The biggest in-house competition to date is between the Aventador and Huracan. Yes, they're both Lamborghini's. Yes, they're both fast. But the real question boils down to which holds the title of fastest Lamborghini on the market?

Aventador

When designing the Aventador, Lamborghini took a look at the past history of cars and the future to see how technology was changing the field and how it fit into the Lamborghini's brand. More importantly, where it saw itself going into the future. It was a great question, and the answer, while surprising, had a huge impact on the Aventador's striking new design. Lamborghini decided it wanted drivers to have real emotions when sitting behind the wheel that brings back the thrill of driving again.

When describing the inspiration for the Aventador, Lamborghini stated, "To combine cutting-edge technology with extraordinary design, without ever coming to compromises. In a future driven by technology, it's easy to lose track of emotions. But in the future we are shaping, real emotions won't be left behind. Because at the wheel, there will always be a person."

In a world where cars are now able to drive themselves, it's reassuring to know that not all automakers have forgotten the sheer joy of sitting behind the wheel and being in control of a powerful machine.

Specs

When driving a Lamborghini, one question immediately comes to mind: How fast is it? Well, that depends on what's under the hood, and Lamborghini went all out on the Aventador.

The Aventador has a V12 engine, which is the most powerful engine Lamborghini has produced to date. It can produce 770 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque, allowing the Aventador to go from 0 to 60 in a mere 2.8 seconds. Its Top speed is 216 mph (350 kph).

When Drag Times tested the Aventador to see what it could do when turned lose, they were in for quite the surprise. In a statement about what happened, Drag Times said, "The Aventador SVJ launched so hard it actually lifted the front wheels off the ground during our 1/4 mile testing." That's quite a bit of power for such a small car.

Body

The Aventador's body is aerodynamic design meant to turn heads and it certainly doesn't fail. Lamborghini describes the Aventador as sophisticated, aggressive, and light. The body is made of materials meant to be lighter and increase speed. As with previous models, the Aventador comes complete with Lambo doors and wings on the back. The ALA system allows the wings to help improve handling by reducing the steering angle. On the rear is an inner channel that split air left or right.

Interior

No detail, no matter how small, is overlooked on the interior of the Aventador. It has the traditional leather seating and Alcantara upholstery. Cross stitching makes the interior pop even more, and carbon fibers can be found on the doors, cockpit, seats, and console.

The telemetry system allows you to record and analyze information such as braking and throttle.

Huracan

Emotions was the focus of the Aventador, and for the Huracan, the focus is technology. Lamborghini described the Huracan as, "Combining the highest expression of Lamborghini's power with the exclusive refinement of Italian handicraft, this series embodies authentic design and state-of-the-art mechanical technology. The Lamborghini Huracan is the perfect fusion of technology and design."

Specs

The Huracan has a mid-engine V10 on all models. The Huracan EVO has 631 hp, 443 pound-feet of torque, and can go from zero to 60 in 2.9 seconds. Its top speed is 202 mph.

Body

The Huracan's body looks aggressive, no matter what angle you look at it from, whether it be the front grill or the spokes on the wheels.

Motor1 reports, "There's a new front splitter with an integrated wing and a new air curtain to help with cooling while also directing airflow away from the front wheels."

Interior

Like the Aventador, the interior of the Huracan has leather seats and Alcantara upholstery.

A new capacitive-touch 8.4-inch HMI screen keeps drivers up to date on important details like a vehicle dynamics page. It includes information on the torque distribution across the axle and the current steering angle.

There's even a lap timer so drivers who like to race can keep track of their time from the comfort of the driver's seat.

Head to Head Competition

With two such powerful automobiles, it was only natural that they be raced against each other to see which would win in a head to head race. Hot Cars reports that in a shocking turn of events, the Huracan won.

In terms of speed when accelerating from zero to 60, the Aventador only has .1 second on the Huracan, so it was going to be a close race however you looked at it, but Hot Cars thinks this may be due to the Aventador's single clutch transmission that hampered its ability to take off quickly. The Huracan has a double clutch that allowed it to get a split second head start that made all the difference.

Another factor could have been that the race took place on a quarter-mile drag strip. Since the Aventador broke the Nurburgring lap record, it's not a question of the Aventador performing in a race. If the track had been longer, the results most likely would have been vastly different.

Either way, it was a close race.

Although each car has its supporters and detractors, here's the bottom line. Both luxury supercars are top of the line performers. For owners who want to preserve the pristine conditions of their cars, there's the Sliplo Universal Skid Plate, which protects against unsightly under-the-bumper scrapes.
