Can-Am’s series of street legal three wheeled motorcycles are all very impressive but Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and Can-Am Spyder RT Limited are arguably the best there is on the market. Looking on the surface, it may seem like there is not much that differentiates the two but there are several subtle differences that you can look into to help you decide which is best for you.
There are many shared aspects that are the same between Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and Can-Am Spyder RT Limited such as both being powered by an inline triple Rotax 1330 ACE engine, and both being able to tow Can-Am trailers. As would be expected, both can also get an extra level of protection from a SLiPLO Can-Am Scrape Guard. Setting similarities to the side, there are significant differences when looking at comfort, appearance, price, long distance driving, and passenger satisfaction. Here we will go over each of these topics and see where each model stands:
Comfort
Even though Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and Can-Am Spyder RT Limited rank among the top Can-Am models, there is a stark difference between the two. Can-Am Spyder RT Limited was created with the goal of producing a luxuriously comfortable experience. To start, Can-Am Spyder RT Limited has an extra soft seat available only with this model that is crafted from adaptive foam and has extra lumbar support. The seats and grips are also heated for your comfort.
That does not mean that the Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited is not comfortable as well. Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited also has heating elements to keep you warm, and self-leveling rear air suspension for a smooth ride. With that said, this model has a much harder seat and a more rugged design. One time where a Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited may be more comfortable is when the driver is especially tall. Tall drivers often feel as if they can better stretch their legs and avoid hitting their knees on stuff with a Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited when compared to Can-Am Spyder RT Limited. This is not the case for all tall drivers though, with some stating that they felt as though they were in such a position in their Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited that it was awkward to press the brake smoothly. This is one more reason why you should always test drive your three wheeled motorcycles before purchase!
Appearance
The Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and the Can-Am Spyder RT Limited look surprisingly different and give off totally separate impressions. If you are looking for a sportier three wheeled motorcycle with a bold, muscular design, then you are going to want to go for the Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited.
Alternatively, if you are going for a more modern appearance, the Can-Am Spyder RT Limited is the way to go. No matter which you choose you will be in style, with both having fantastic aesthetic appeal.
Passengers
Although both Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and Can-Am Spyder RT Limited are acceptable for having occasional passengers, if you plan to do a lot of riding with a passenger, you may want to consider Can-Am Spyder RT Limited. This is because most passengers report considerably more satisfaction and comfort with riding on the back of a Can-Am Spyder RT Limited.
Can-Am Spyder RT Limited was designed to keep two people comfortable, instead of primarily one person. Even though Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited does have a passenger backrest and footboard, you may want to get a trunk extender for more room for passengers if you plan to have them onboard often. This is not a concern with Can-Am Spyder RT Limited, with a luxury passenger seat, high backrest, and heated passenger grips and seats!
Long Distance Driving
Because of differences in comfort and storage, Can-Am Spyder RT Limited is more suitable to many people for long distance driving, though you could easily do so with either option. Whichever way you decide, you will need to think about how to avoid damaging your vehicle by hitting speed bumps too fast, but long-distance trips should not be a problem.
One advantage of Can-Am Spyder RT Limited is that it has more overall storage capacity at 47 gallons (or 177 liters) where as Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited only has 36.5 gallons (or 138 liters) of storage. This means that if you pack efficiently, you should be able to fit everything you need for a long trip for both you and any possible passengers in your Can-Am Spyder RT Limited. It should be noted, though, that Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited has a bigger top box for storing helmets. It can fit two full helmets, whereas the top box of Can-Am Spyder RT Limited cannot. Instead, it has integrated hard side luggage.
On top of having more cargo space, Can-Am Spyder RT Limited has other convenient features. These include having a glovebox with a USB port, as well as vehicle optimized smartphone apps that allows you to listen to your favorite songs, check the weather, and share your experience on your trip. Lastly, Can-Am Spyder RT Limited has a superior adjustable electric windshield with adjustment memory.
Price
The luxury that you get with a Can-Am RT Limited comes at a price. If you are looking to save some money and are not too concerned with extra comfort or storage space, or if you want a sportier three wheeled motorcycle, getting a Can-Am F3 Limited is probably your best bet.
With around a $2,800 difference, price can be an important factor to consider when choosing between a Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited and a Can-Am Spyder RT Limited. Depending on what aspects are most important to you will help you decide if the extra cost is warranted.
Which One Should I Choose?
If you are looking for a more muscular, sporty three wheeled motorcycle and only occasionally have passengers, a Can-Am Spyder F3 Limited will likely be best for you. If, on the other hand, your number one priority is comfort for yourself and passengers on long drives, Can-Am Spyder RT Limited can provide this for you. Do not forget to test drive both and see which one feels best for you!
